Naming the Game

Hello. Two days ago was sunny – one of the most fabulous and sunniest days that Glasgow has seen in a while. A fine day. A glorious day. A Good To Be Alive day. Even, maybe, a “Good To Be Me” day. My thoughts turned to blogging............... an’ I thought it wiz about time I admitted to still being here.

My energies of the last too many months have been somewhat channelled towards seeking employment – and over the last several weeks, devoted to assimilation of the new job requirements.

And are these demanding ? Thank you for asking. Demanding, yes – but not in the “saving lives in ITU” league – Thank Goodness. No one is likely to step prematurely into The Next Realm if I don’t do this job well enough. That Responsibility, Those Jobs are Now Done By Others. Thank Goodness.

I think I’m only just beginning to really recognize the cost involved in carrying such responsibility for so long. When I first took up the reins of the post I remember hoping that I’d recognize when the time arrived to move on.

I loved the people I cared for.......and yes, for me it was right to weep with those who wept and rejoice with those who rejoiced.........and, as a dedicated professional, I learnt to leave each bedside and go refreshed and new to the next, meeting each as an individual needing a unique and considered approach. I loved the staff I worked with........... well, most of them ........being human I met some I found difficult, and one in particular with whom I did not find a satisfying working relationship. This still imparts sadness.

I was totally committed to the requirements of the role. I hated the politics, and as I got older I began to struggle with the hours and energy which were consumed. I think I did recognize something of this – but I couldn’t see a way out.......... or a way forward.......... or sideways, or back, for that matter. It was going to be a difficult process, by whatever path..........

Thank you, BlogVisitor, for visiting, for being around, and sharing something of the rough and smooth of the path which has been involved. The blogging community have been so very supportive – especially over the long weeks and months of unemployment. I would never have expected such kindness and encouragement............. from generous folk from all over the world. Thank you. Thank you so much.

And now – where is ChickPea now ? Ah well, there’s a question............

Two day ago, several times, in fact, in my new administrative post, I was momentarily aware that I was in a good place - the ‘right’ place, and doing the ‘right’ thing............. And it felt Good To Be Alive.

The learning curve involved in the new job continues, and much of the time it still feels as if I am carrying a big pile of dinnerplates while running into the wind across a steep shingle beach with waves crashing and the tide coming in fast....... struggling to keep balance........ and not fall............struggling to keep going............. trying to make progress and gain distance – whilst the tide was getting ever closer..........

But maybe I can look at this differently.........the winds are blowing, yes, and with unpredictable gusts from most unexpected directions...........and tide and waves are close and closing............I guess there’s an element here of ‘storm’ and a disciple losing heart whilst Christ sleeps in the boat..........

A steep shingle beach is certainly not the easiest of surfaces to run across............... but maybe what’s actually happening is that I really am All At Sea - and learning to windsurf............. !

Aha – what would an analyst make of that, then, eh ? A very typical life experience, I guess, but somehow, when it’s the one you’re in yourself, it can be quite difficult stepping back far enough from the wood so that you can see the trees.......... and feel the sunshine on your face again.............

I’m sitting here with the Catlet resting on my left hip and reaching across the keys to both Help n Hinder.

He’s a Fine Fellow, this Bart. He doesn’t fill either of his predecessors’ shoes of course – my beloved white and tabby Judith was a most dedicated CompanionCat, and The PoppyCat too was One In A Million – like each and every one of us. Special, and unique, and totally irreplaceable. And every life has room for at least one more...........

Each day the young Bartholomew grows a bit more in size and stature, and finds new things – real or imaginary – to chase, or challenge, or ambush.........or to snuggle up to.............It may be tall, bipedal and bearing food............ or four legged, black and white, and with Big Teeth.............. BUT ...........Everything Is Fun..........Everything has the potential to Be Great..........and young Bart shows us, time and again, that if you approach it sideways......... and especially if you divert its attention and take charge of it almost Anything CAN be transformed............. ‘dull’ can become ‘shiny’.............. ‘boring’ can be realigned to be ‘exciting’.......... even just a leaf can be THE most EXCITING THING EVER.......... it just All Depends On HOW You Can Take It By Surprise.....

Perspective. Attitude. Imagination. Trust. Focus. Commitment. Enthusiasm. Love. Daring..............

Who would have thought that such a small Catlet-Kitten-Thing could show us so very much in so few weeks?

Maybe there’s more in young BartholoMew’s name than meets the eye, eh?

Somewhat Later Than Anticipated

There seem to be a number of us bloggers who Aren’t Just Now........

ChickPea – as one of the aforesaid company - has been sans Muse and directing her energies in one or two alternative directions..................into her current regular working hours (being “ 3hrs paid Mon-Fri workout” – alternatively known as School Domestic Duties), a very few paid office hours (only a few – but a welcome start along the new path, and providing a wee tad of affirmation), voluntary reception hours, voluntary office filing assistance, choir stuff, dog walking, cat care (tho our Holiday Visitor has now returned home), household chores, some job applications (largely sidelined just now in aiming to allow time to devote to her remaining ECDL modules), ECDL attention (aiming to support office working credibility)........... occasional (precious) snippets of time spent social networking..... gaining more job application rejections (wow).......and being Major Grouchy cos blitzed with a head cold for the last week........

Not much excitement or avid brain activity to provide ready cannon fodder to blog about........

Occasional visits to her favourite blogging community sites have been happening intermittently, but few of these show much recent activity, causing concern – are they ok ? – would a comment help ? - or would a comment be irritating ? ...... or maybe there’s Something In The Air.......... certainly many of us appear to be caught in the out-of-employment-morass or similar-life-sapping-struggles which tend to undermine the very best of blogging intentions .........

...........anyway........ 2 days ago ChickPea decided to commit to making a comment ....... didn’t seem too demanding a venture........... oh yes, need to just log on first.........oh *(expletive)* ...... what’s the password then....haven’t used it in a while but the brain must hold it somewhere........ not THAT one then......... nor that........... nor that.......oh dear........

OK. This can be dealt with........ all you do is follow the onscreen prompts.......so she did.......after a few circuits of these she decided enuff wuz enuff......... gave up. .....dispirited.....

The Next Day she discovered that The Process had just been being a tad slow(er than she thought it would be)....... SO...... here - at last - is proof that The Grim Reaper Has Not Yet Whisked Her Away - she still exists, can still use a keyboard ............ and is still a computer numpty.....................

Good Friday

And some good things happening in ChickPea’s life – tho’ the kitchen has been much neglected…………

Job adverts are still surfacing, allowing incalculable hours to be spent merrily (?) re-jigging CV or compiling application form and letter or email. After the disappointment of the first two applications of 2009 being rejected without even a sniff at interview, ChickPea has been trying to be more philosophical. And has stopped counting. Kind knock-backs have included the insight of 70–plus applicants (even for part time low waged jobs), numerous competitors having perfect previous experience IN a similar role – so an aspiring post-holder like CP fully appreciates they would want to employ the bestest and most ideal candidate…….. (****** !)

Ms Mog is still – ASTONISHINGLY – in residence, frail as a frail thing but eating like a horse, and waking TH and CP up at 5am if she’s scoffed all the food from the night before but is still feeling peckish…….

Chooks are laying well and waking TH and CP up at 6am because chookies got up at dawn and are now bored with pellets and want an INTERESTING breakfast. NOW. (Oh yes – and HAVE you seen my egg – BEST egg in the world – in fact – in the Entire Known Universe !) Aye. Vocal, our chooks……

Voluntary receptionist hours are proving to be great – and filing system activity at S Elsewhere’s is FUN – yes – really fun – and satisfying – providing a sense of achievement and fulfilment - and even a bit affirming for the ole battered ego - and reassuring CP that a career change in the direction of office administration-type stuff really could be feasible (even tho it’s not actually happening yet….)

AND - The most recent blood test for cholesterol was great (seriously !) – with a family history of this calibre, and cholesterol at ‘time bomb’ levels, diet and previous statin therapy making no appreciable impact over several years, it was indeed an excellent moment to discover that current medication and semi-industrial dosage has finally battered the numbers into mid-range scores. So ChickPea seems likely to get a bit longer in the tooth yet, and able to stave off pushing up daisies meantime……..
And so we have got to Good Friday. I highly recommend visiting Kelvin's blog if you are seeking some seasonal food for thought.

"Ooooops............"

There she was, ChickPea working steadily on the computer, conscientiously wading through her Outlook ‘Inbox’ and doing some (much needed) tidying up. All was going well. Considering the time of night and distraction levels of the TV and TH ………..

When……oops……..’NOW what’ve I done ?’ she thought….. Quietly……… To Herself. …………….

TH was rather close by………… but maybe busy enough not to notice……… HOW ON EARTH could the screen picture thingie rotate itself COMPLETELY by 180 degrees without so much as a ‘by the way, I’m going to…….’ ?! (HELP !)

(DON’T PANIC !)

She was sure she should be able to fix it. Herself. She’d just completed a module of the ECDL after all…… What had she done – had she pressed those keys ?....... mebbe…… wonder if repeating might sort it……. noooooooo…….. never mind, should be sortable from the desktop screen……..found the desktop…….right click………ummmmmmmmm…….not convinced that was right - tho it’s kind of tricky when it’s all upside down, and the cursor is moving back to front…….. (and TH is right by her left elbow……….but apparently not noticing)…………HOW is he not noticing ? …. (miracles DO still happen….)……………….maybe shutting it down and turning it off will sort it out……………….
………………………………………….

……Noooooooooooooooo……………………

…………..perhaps leave it till tomorrow………..maybe it’ll repent after a night off………….

….sooooooooo…

……………………………..Nooooooooooo.

Yup, ChickPea wuz having a fun time before Christmas. .......................

(Sorry - What was that ? – Oh ! – YES - She DID get it sorted out the next day, with technical guidance from The College, and yes, it was thru that right click on the ‘desktop’ manoeuvre (just a step beyond where she’d got to whilst trying to read, think and re-orientate upside down………)

................and now I guess she’ll find out how often TH is reading her blog………!

Autumn is definitely upon us..........

Yup. You don’t need to be a working mum to notice the flying by of the time, nice clock or no nice clock. The colours of autumn are encroaching, so enjoy them while you can ………. ChickPea was out in Kelvingrove Park again yesterday with her box brownie (well – a descendent of her BB), and all being well we’ll see some autumnal flavours getting into the Risotto over the next few days…….

Meantime, let’s see what’s been happening to fluff up the soufflé……. ( and we’ll just forget all about PK’s take on ‘fluffing’, won’t we…….)

ChickPea has been vigorously jobhunting of late. Various returns not wishing to employ her talents notwithstanding. Luckily, enough combined SAD light exposure and sunshine by-the-by to rouse her wilting spirits, and to fire up both The Imagination and The Latent Blagger Within……. Whoo hoo ! ….. So the most unlikely of job adverts have been viewed with decreasing suspicion, the CV turned inside out, with a nip here, a tuck there, a few more stitches and a modicum of embroidery……. I tell you – if all it took was Positive Thinking, she’d be running the world by now….. but…….

So there’s now another 3 applications in during this week… (quite enough to handle for just now - tho’ she picked up more possibilities at the Jobcentre this morning, so will doubtless peruse the potential therein before hanging her Blagging Boots up for the weekend……) …….. and I do believe the sunshine is out to play, the chooks are only up to their ankles in mud, Ms Mog is sleeping the sleep of the well fed, and Mr Mutt is surveying the back yard morosely, and wondering If There’s Any Justice At All In The Universe…….. (cos if there is, why oh why is he jus’ sittin’ waitin’ for his walk ?)

OK, Mr Mutt. Like the Guinness advert says, all it takes is patience…….. good things come to those wot wait…….

The Tender Touch

How often do you touch someone ? Anyone ? How often are you touched ?

The world seems to divide into 3 groups over touching – those who touch readily, those who just don’t – and those who are learning to touch…….

ChickPea grew up in a family which didn’t touch each other very much at all. There Were Reasons For This which became known very much later. But it meant that she found physical contact very VERY difficult. Anxiety would arise. Didn’t help the teenager find friends. Didn’t do much for the ‘twenty-and-thirty-something’ desperate for a partner.

But teenage years did introduce 2 very lovely people into ChickPea’s life who were ‘Touchers’. They touched everyone – in an honest, unaffected, positive, non-threatening, kind, affirming sort of way. And she learned to cope with being touched. And Life became more positive. And gradually, she realized that Life could be further enriched by touching others.

When she moved away from home to a far city, ‘being touched’ happened less often. But she was now training to be a professional ‘toucher’ for others. When she finished training, and gained confidence in her work, she developed a deep respect and awareness of the therapeutic aspects of touch. Assessing how to best touch each and every patient was a challenge – but respect, care, encouragement and affirmation were all clearly part of the contact experienced. Touch people in the right way for them and they responded positively, did what they were asked and they got better ! – they even got well and left hospital. If ChickPea got it wrong, or ‘inherited’ people who had been touched less than kindly, they would not co-operate, and treatments were difficult. What was great was when people who initially found such contact difficult discovered they could cope with being touched, and they recovered too.

For some, recovery was never going to be possible. But for them, Touch was still therapeutic, and positive and caring and kind and oh – so very welcome. They often needed to touch, in thanks.

Out in The World Outside, the population still has anxiety about ‘touch’ – well, I guess it is about the implications of touch, really. If you but read the news you know how ‘Touch’, in all its inherent innocence and purity, has been and is being abused. Many people ‘back off’ if they think you might touch them.

I guess that’s maybe where Christ’s disciples were at when Jesus was in a crowd and Someone Touched His Cloak. The disciples just didn’t quite ‘get’ it. That there is touch, and touch. That you can bump into someone, and nothing is shared, nothing is gained. But there’s other times…….

And there’s times…….. some times……… when all you want is to be touched, or to touch…..to be held, or to hold. And you long that the ‘dare to’ be transformed into ‘ok to’.

Oh the Sheer Joy when able to find such trust, caring and kindness in a friendship. That you can share a hug, and hold and touch, is just so, so precious and so very wonderful a thing……….

Touch. One of the 5 Senses. A God-given gift.

Yes, ChickPea still finds ‘touching’ a challenge.

Fluid Balancing

No – NOT like ‘balancing plates’. ( Thankfully. As my general balancing abilities prevented me ever managing to stay upright on rollerskates, ‘Damp’ would become a Permanent Feature ).

As it transpires, this relates to the amounts of fluid taken in versus given out by an organism. ( In this case, DJ. One of his Essential Needs That Arrived Unexpectedly And Started All This. Caused by a fundamental mechanical drainage problem which reached and passed the state of no return, and a longstanding slightly impaired renal function).

Fluid Balancing tends to mean lots of tempting, cajoling and measuring to achieve the minimum intake requirement of two litres each day. And a fair bit of Ingenuity to make it a tolerable requirement for DJ. And good humour. And a basic ‘O Grade’ in addition.

Tuesday was a Fairly Good Day. By 3pm we’d already reached 1875 mls.

(It may not seem like much of an achievement to you – but believe me !)

That’s the ‘Input’ part of the equation. Easy to talk about. As DJ has difficulty tolerating anything around his body that he wasn’t born with, then the ‘Output’ is perhaps a little more ticklish to consider. Many people will tolerate (I use this word carefully) a tube which is inserted into the appropriate orifice and left in place (known as an ‘indwelling urinary catheter’) to drain into a collection bag which is hidden under clothing. This is then changed every few months by a professional such as the district nurse, with care and hope to avoid infection. If someone really will not tolerate this method, their ‘waterworks’ can alternatively be managed by gently slipping a simple catheter in as and when necessary – and then taking it out again. Needs a clean and careful technique, but it is really not difficult. As this is most usually done by the person for themselves, it is called ‘Intermittent Self-Catheterisation’ (ISC).

But The System remains doubtful that anyone would/could wish to do this for themself, and is absolutely convinced that no-one could possibly consider doing such a thing for someone else. That this method is commonplace for many people with spinal injuries (for example), does not seem transferable to care of the elderly so far as the system is concerned. Former colleagues of ChickPea suggested this management approach might be possible for DJ, were she willing to do it for him. Given that her job had required doing far more horrible things to ill people, she was willing to give it a try – so long as DJ was in agreement. He was. And TH. He was too. But The System ? – Took a bit of convincing, I can tell you ! (Not the nurses – they were great – very supportive and encouraging, and taught her over the next 3 days, and we got DJ home within the week – after a month in hospital of very difficult ‘person-management’ for both DJ and the staff concerned – and not just a few bruises, either).

Anyway – that’s how we do the ‘Output’ bit, usually about 3 times throughout the 24-hr day, measuring of amounts being necessary, adding up the day’s production and then comparing this with the day’s ‘Input’.

Now. For DJ to stay elsewhere requires they have staff who can do this technique. Does it seem obvious to you ? (Try telling the Social Worker……there’s several stories involved, but maybe another time…….). Anyway – the end result of this is that there are very VERY few of the ‘Respite’ facilities hereabouts which can cope with ISC. And because of the (dis)organized expertise of the Social Work system, there is apparently no database involved for listing the ‘Respite’ premises with such skill. Oh No. Each place has to be phoned, and asked.

Our experience of this is that if the Social Worker actually manages to arrange a Respite bed it will be somewhere that is not able to cope with either DJ's stage of ‘dementia’ or ‘ISC’. She assumes the district nurses will pop in and do the necessary, 3x/day for 7 days (or whatever). ! This thought causes apoplexy for the district nurses. (And for TH and ChickPea). Now that we are wise to this, ChickPea finds it most successful to track a place down herself, and get SW agreement thereafter…..

And I think – after 18 months of searching for a place to stick with – we may have found it. And that is where DJ is staying for Respite this time. And they even phoned yesterday morning to tell us that he had fallen on the floor during the night (what – only once ? – a miracle !), and that his fluid output at his late session was as good as we could hope. (Somewhat more reassuring than a previous place who had put him into hospital without telling us…….. they’d mis-copied our telephone contact details from the printed sheet we’d given them………).

DJ appears to be in the safest of available hands. We live in hope.

The Way It Is Going........

Not good. Not at all good. Unless a miracle happens to reverse current trends, it is increasingly looking as if DJ will need to be in permanent residential Care over the next few weeks (maybe days) rather than the months that ChickPea had been anticipating.

At midnight last night, again at 6am and again at 8am DJ had to be picked up off the floor of his bedroom. No evidence of specific injury, but certainly increasingly bruised. Wasn’t really managing to stand, let alone walk. Maybe that will have improved by the time he wakens. He was wanting to get up at 9.30am, sat up, took some fruit juice, then wanted to lie down again……. so having replaced his pyjamas, ChickPea made it so……..it is now 12.30md, and he’s still sleeping………

Dementia, of whatever type/cause, is a horrible thing. The Professionals used to persuade us to get DJ up in this situation, and not let him sleep on. On the basis that he would be less likely to sleep the next night. We trusted and believed The Professionals. So we did. And DJ got more and more tired, more and more anxious and fretful, more and more unsettled at night. It all got so desperately distressing for DJ, TH and ChickPea that we stopped, reassessed. And decided to Trust our Own Instincts. And let DJ stay in bed late (sometimes – ‘outside arrangements’ mean he sometimes has to get up at 8am – sometimes 7am). But Lo ! The Situation Improved (for a while). So now I Say To Others – Trust Yourself !

Sadly, as TH pointed out, caring for Someone With Dementia is an uphill learning curve. You just get to managing to cope with The Requirements…. And These Change. So you cannae cope so well until you’ve struggled a bit with the New Requirements….. and then you get to cope again…..but then All Changes Again……… Struggle Again……. Cope Again…….. Changes Again…..

That’s what it’s like for us. What the heck is it like for DJ ? He never was a great one for communicating or sharing his experience, and the dementia is steadily – and increasingly quickly – eroding his ability to think, to relate to himself, to relate to us. His speech has been deteriorating this last week. Saliva escapes more and more of the time. Balance, stance and movement are disappearing almost as we watch.

Nothing can prepare the Nearest And Dearest for that. But for us, none even tried. Just this week I found the ‘Seven Point Scale’ of Dementia, on the excellent Altzheimer Socy website (I’ll try and tag it on the blog, but I’m not good at these things yet…). Perhaps I should have been more proactive and spent more time researching these things for myself. But I was (attempting) caring for DJ…… but NOW we know that his condition ticks all the boxes for ‘Stage 6’ and several of ‘Stage 7’……… there is no ‘Stage 8’ on this earth. So why – WHY – when I have asked The Professionals to give us some clue about his level of dementia, have they just shrugged and said, “Well, you know it is difficult…” HA ! you don’t say. And how many big bucks are they being paid, and just why should the relatives be expected to jump thru’ technical hoops to access the official case record notes to find out what any decent Professional (I speak as a Professional) should expect to deliver to Relevant Others as a basic factor of Good Professional Practice….. ?

The GP seemed somewhat unmoved and unconcerned when she was in 2 days ago. Didn’t want to know how – if – we are coping. After all, he is 95. But so what ? I’ve known 98 year olds with a good quality of life. Age of itself shouldn’t be justification for poor quality of life – or poor care. I am very concerned that maybe - just maybe - Things Could Be Better for a wee while with a little tweaking of the medications. GP wouldn’t consider that without a blood test….. so the District Nurse would have to come in to do that another day…… How come the GP, who was here, couldn’t/wouldn’t just do it there and then and it’d be in process ? Oh no. (But surely that costs the system even more, getting someone else all the way along to the house to spend another 5 mins getting a blood sample, as well as at least another 24 hrs before the results will be available ?).
Sorry. ChickPea worked in Acute Areas of the NHS for well over 20yrs and knows how the system wastes money by such illogical behaviours – and care of the patient is compromised by so many stupidities of The System. If The Professional concerned will think outside of their box and push the system, you find it is made of stretchy stuff that WILL actually accommodate better – even best – care for the individual. But The Professional has to work much much harder to achieve that result now compared to 20 yrs ago……. And now we have a new generation of Professionals, who perhaps have never actually seen ‘best’ care to even know that it can be possible…..
Anyway, the blood sample eventually got taken yesterday. 24hrs was probably within ‘targets’…….

Sorry. This has been A Rant. Sadly, a Very Necessary Rant. I’ll try to do better next time…….

TREASURE HUNT

TH thought There Was A Secret.

ChickPea just thought TH wasn’t interested.

She’d floated the idea of writing a Blog, and TH had been encouraging. Then, NOTHING. No enquiries as to any further thoughts/plans/ideas/attempts to do this. NOTHING. (She knew TH was tired, and busy at work, and a bit not well – but, well, these things somehow didn't seem relevant – she still hoped he might have asked her about the Blog).

So when, yet again TH the CWK was flogging his laptop, instead of trying to talk to him, or Being Bored watching telly, ChickPea just got out her windup laptop and got on with it. When floundering in the jargon and intricacies of Blog setting-up, she got on with it or Tried What She Though Was Required, then took time out to Wait And See What Happened. And she did it. It Worked. And she wuz dead chuffed.

And TH Thought There Was A Secret. (Some chance !)

But – There Wasn’t. Just one of those Elephant Pits of Communication Failure. So now ChickPea had discovered what a ‘URL’ might be, she could email the Blog’s one to TH.

Is a ‘Secret Shared’ a ‘Secret Halved’ – or a ‘Secret Doubled’ ?

Sleep (2)

Remember our daytime herbal tablets experience ? Well – before we found the daytime ones, we discovered ‘Nightime’ versions.

Again, we only discovered these in desperation because traditional medical approaches not only failed us completely, but dramatically increased the ‘not sleeping’ problem.

And again, so long as we didn’t try to use them every night, but just as a ‘fallback’ to achieve the occasional ‘satisfactory’ night, we got fairly good results. Not 100% you understand.

And then, reading DJ’s newspaper one day, there was this article about melatonin. A natural part of human bodily functioning, natural ‘normal’ levels increasing at night to help sleep. Noted to often be depleted in the elderly.

So – we tried to discuss it with the psychogeriatrician when we had a meeting about the difficulties we were having trying to live with DJ’s disordered sleep. He didn’t know anything about melatonin. Clearly didn’t WANT to know about melatonin. Certainly didn’t seem inclined to think it would offer any benefit. Maybe The Time Had Come to put DJ into Permanent Residence Somewhere. End of meeting.

This is Why You Need Confidence In Your Own Abilities as a carer.

Back to the Internet (a few weeks later - when we were again getting desperate, having discovered the benefits but also the shortcomings of herbal tablets). And what did Computer Whizz Kid, TH find ? – you guessed it, Melatonin. So we got some. And we tried it. And we had nearly 2 weeks of fairly normal sleeping for DJ (and us). Miracle of Miracles.

That was Then.

Now we’ve just had 4 nights of very disrupted sleeping. TH and I find this Very Difficult. DJ doesn’t – he usually gets allowed to sleep for bits of the day just to Help Survival Of The Carers. Today T from Crossroads was in for the afternoon, and had to contend with DJ demanding to go to bed from about 2.30pm……. We finally let him go to bed just about 6.30pm……. then he was up out of bed about every 20mins and pestering to get dressed from about 7pm, determined it would be morning if he wanted it to be……finally made him sit up with us at 9pm……but still not wanting his bed at 11pm...... it’s now 11.34pm and we’re hoping he’ll settle this time……

Has been at least partly related to Gut Gymnastics....

The melatonin continues. Last night I re-tried one of his previously-successful-before-Respite-abused-it herbal tablets……

……. SURELY he will be so tired tonight he will sleep……
